Taxation in Andorra for digital nomads: how much you'll save in 2026

Andorra has had a specific residence permit for digital nomads since 2022 and a tax system that is, objectively, among the lowest in Europe. This article does not discuss how to apply for residency—we explain that in detail in [link to article]. Our guide to requirements and procedures— but what any digital professional needs to know before making the decision: How much tax is actually paid in Andorra and how much is saved compared to Spain or other European countries?.

The Andorran tax system: the three main taxes

Andorra applies three main taxes that affect a resident digital nomad. All three have rates well below the European average.

IRPF: maximum of 10%

The Tax on Personal Income Tax (IRPF) Andorra has a three-section stopover:

Annual income bracketGuy
First €24,0000% (exempt)
From €24,000 to €40,0005%
Starting from €40,00010%

With an annual income of €50,000, the calculation is as follows: €0 for the first €24,000 + €800 for the €16,000 following the 5% + €1,000 for the remaining €10,000 to the 10% = €1,800 total income taxAn effective rate of 3.61% of the total tax. In Spain, that same €50,000 would be taxed at approximately €14,000.

IGI: the lowest VAT in Europe, at 4.5%

The Indirect General Tax (IGI) It is the equivalent of VAT in Andorra. The general rate is 4,5%This is in contrast to Spain's 21% or France's 20%. Basic necessities are subject to the 1% rate, and some services are at 0%. For a self-employed individual or freelancer who invoices digital services, this represents a direct price advantage over EU-based competitors.

Corporate Income Tax: 10%

If instead of operating as a self-employed individual you establish an Andorran company, the Impost de Societats (IS) has a general type of 10%with reduced rates of 2% to 5% for innovation activities, startups, and intellectual asset management. In Spain, the IS rate is 25%.

What Andorra does not have

Just as important as what is paid is what does not exist in Andorra:

  • No wealth tax. In Spain it can reach 3.5% on the net value of assets.
  • No inheritance or gift tax. Especially relevant for those who have assets to transfer or plan for the long term.
  • Without municipal capital gains tax regarding the sale of real estate at the level that exists in Spain.

How much does a digital nomad save in Andorra?

To make the numbers concrete, here are three real-world scenarios:

Annual incomeAndorra Personal Income TaxSpanish Personal Income Tax (approx.)Annual savings
40.000 €800 €~9.500 €~8.700 €
70.000 €3.800 €~22.000 €~18.200 €
120.000 €8.800 €~46.000 €~37.200 €
These are indicative estimates. The actual tax burden depends on deductions and personal circumstances.

Starting with an annual income of around €40,000, the tax difference between Andorra and Spain far outweighs any additional cost of living that the move might entail. Above €70,000, the savings are very significant.

Beyond taxes: quality of life

Taxation is the main reason, but Andorra also offers:

  • Security: one of the lowest crime rates in the world according to statistics.ad.
  • Connectivity: Fiber optic cable in the 100% area via Andorra Telecom.
  • Health: public quality system managed by the CASSwith good private options.
  • Location: between Spain and France, with easy access to Barcelona (2h) and Toulouse (1.5h).
  • Natural environment: mountains, skiing, hiking — a quality of life hard to find in a European capital.
