We were already talking about the <a href=\"https:\/\/andorrainsiders.com\/en\/flights-from-madrid-to-andorra-available\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4448\">Madrid-Andorra flights<\/a>, offered by Air Nostrum, carried out at this same airport. Well, this airport was completely abandoned and there was nothing, not even a lighting system, there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group datos-clave\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key data (2025\u20132026)<\/h4>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Andorra\u2013La Seu d&#039;Urgell Airport:<\/strong> operational since 2015, capacity 200,000 pax\/year<\/li>\n<li><strong>Main track:<\/strong> 1,700 meters long<\/li>\n<li><strong>Night flights:<\/strong> lighting enabled since 2023<\/li>\n<li><strong>Distance to the centre of Andorra la Vella:<\/strong> 23 km (30 min)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><em>Source: Department of Vehicles \u2014 Government of Andorra<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Installation of night lighting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But this situation changed in September-October 2022, when the <strong>installation of the infrastructure to install the necessary lights so that the Andorra \u2013 La Seu airport could finally operate at night<\/strong>. These works have had a cost of approximately 1 million euros assumed by the Generalitat of Catalonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The works have consisted of <strong>installation of three lighting towers with LEDs and eleven light towers with collection and solar energy batteries<\/strong>. The runway has also been adapted with obstacle lights, leds and pipes on the sides, and an aerodrome lighthouse has been installed in the control tower. However, and <strong>to reduce the visual and energy impact, they will only come on in case there are operations<\/strong>. Thus, flight slots will be extended, something also relevant for Catalonia as employment at the airport will increase. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ready for night flight certification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So that, <strong>the lighting system is ready for certification<\/strong>, after having successfully passed the drills carried out testing takeoffs and landings with the new runway and apron lights on, which will have to allow night flights. This will be borne by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seguridadaerea.gob.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA)<\/a>, that <a href=\"https:\/\/pirineustv.cat\/ultimes-proves-dilluminacio-a-laeroport-andorra-la-seu-per-iniciar-vols-nocturns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will certify the works and grant the necessary permits<\/a> to be able to use the lights. The technicians of said agency are currently visiting the airport in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest validation tests have been carried out by Enaire, the Spanish air navigation manager. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariandorra.ad\/noticies\/nacional\/2023\/01\/19\/alarma_per_les_proves_amb_luminacio_aeroport_andorra_214232_1125.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The residents of Aravell were surprised by the red lights<\/a> and the beacon signs in the profile of the mountain, as they could be seen from the road. <a href=\"https:\/\/aeroports.gencat.cat\/ca\/actualitat\/noticia\/aeroport-andorra-la-seu-prova-exit-sistema-illuminacio-facilitar-vols-nocturns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Airports in Catalonia<\/a>For his part, he confirmed the information and alerted the residents that the tests will continue for the next few days. <strong>This step was essential to make the Andorran airport more operational and establish a greater number of air connections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relationship between the Government of Andorra and the Generalitat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.govern.ad\/presidencia-economia-i-empresa\/item\/15291-el-sistema-d-il-luminacio-per-a-facilitar-els-vols-nocturns-a-l-aeroport-d-andorra-la-seu-a-punt-per-a-la-seva-certificacio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Both the Government and the Generalitat have expressed satisfaction<\/a> of the works. Gallardo has highlighted the <strong>efforts of both the Government and the Generalitat &quot;to make this infrastructure grow&quot;<\/strong>, capital in Andorra for the disenclave strategy that the country has. It has also celebrated the effort to obtain the necessary aeronautical certifications in order to consolidate the commercial aspect of the Andorra-La Seu Airport. In addition, he referred to the next challenge for the facility, which is to provide it with a control point for people and merchandise control and to strengthen the Andorra-La Seu airport with flights from outside the Schengen area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Even the most skeptical have recognized the success of this start-up<\/strong> of flights from La Seu, through the concession to Air Nostrum and with the aim of attracting new operators in &quot;premium schedules&quot; that allow &quot;higher occupancy rates&quot; of the planes. We will see how the expansion works as an international infrastructure to manage longer and more bureaucratic flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For his part, the Regional Minister of the Generalitat, Juli Fern\u00e0ndez, stressed that the will of both institutions is <strong>\u201cstrengthen the infrastructure to continue creating opportunities in the territory; Expanding the operating hours is also expanding the opportunities\u201d<\/strong>. Fern\u00e0ndez has also referred to the &quot;intense, coordinated and fruitful&quot; collaboration between the Government and the Generalitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Generalitat of Catalonia will bear the cost of all the works, as provided for in the agreement signed with Andorra in this regard: the agreement that deals with the marketing of regular flights between La Seu d&#039;Urgell and Madrid. In addition, it is planned to launch a second route yet to be decided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next flight airlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2024-2025 Update:<\/strong> Of the planned destinations, <strong>Palma de Mallorca materialized in September 2024<\/strong> (Air Nostrum, Tuesdays and Saturdays). However, Paris and London have not yet started. Regarding the <strong>commercial night flights<\/strong>Although the lighting infrastructure is certified and operational, as of 2025 Air Nostrum operates only in <strong>daytime hours<\/strong> (Madrid: Fridays and Sundays ~2:45 pm; Palma: Tuesdays and Saturdays midday).
